For centuries, many writers have produced their best work as a reaction to uncertain, unsettled times in history, including pandemics, wars, and periods of social/political unrest. However, it is also common for writers to question their creative purpose and overall writing identity during these moments. A panel of writers will discuss how the pandemic and other recent world events have informed, challenged, or complicated their writing and explore what it has taught them about themselves. They will reveal their creative struggles and accomplishments of the past twelve months and examine whether or not writing is even more essential now than ever before. Moderated by Martin Hyatt, the panelists include Cheryl Head, Sassafras Lowrey, and Daniel W.K. Lee.
